![]() I just make what I like and hope some others will to. I try not to care if people don't like it (just as I'm not keen on the art style for this game) - personal tastes are just that and you can't please everyone. Yeah I barely use social media because of this. ![]() I’ve never even played the games and I’m still excited to try this new one. Yes, all my best to the Monkey Island team. This will never stop, outside of a post-scarcity utopia where everyone is content enough not to project their lack of fulfillment on to trivial matters. People absolutely should behave better, but us saying what ought to be so is not going to make it so. I’m sure there are plenty of corporate advertising teams out there that insist on maximizing “audience engagement”, but if it’s going to result in the whole affair being stopped (or even just unhealthy levels of stress for those producing the content) then what’s the point? ![]() They’re appropriate for some things, but not every place of information needs to allow anonymous commentary by the public. This is why I kinda think comment sections need to largely go the way of the dodo (and I’m fully aware of where I’m writing this). What do you make of this latest development? Are you liking the look of Return to Monkey Island? Let us know in the comments. In a previous blog post, Gilbert stated that the comments being made by certain people had made him "sad", and he expressed the irony that "the people who don't want me to make the game I want to make are some of the hard core Monkey Island fans". Whatever you want Monkey Island to be, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that making this a chore rather than a joy for the devs is the quickest way to ensure it won't be anything for anybody.- Dominic Armato June 30, 2022 (I've seen a lot of passionate but polite/polite-adjacent discussion going on, but the comments on Ron's blog were a total shitshow.) /BUBoPdU1fS- Dominic Armato June 30, 2022Īrmato then offers up his own opinion on the backlash from fans: I *think* my final word on this for a little while: This was screen grabbed by Dominic Armato, the voice behind Monkey Island protagonist Guybrush Threepwood, and posted on Twitter (mind the language here!): The website domain currently fails to load at the time of writing.Īs reported by VGC, Gilbert posted a message decrying the personal attacks, stating that "people are just being mean" and that "the joy of sharing has been driven from me", confirming that he won't be posting anymore updates about the game. Ron Gilbert, the creator behind the Monkey Island franchise and writer on the upcoming Return to Monkey Island, has seemingly shut down his blog after instances of personal attacks from commenters. Original Article: Thu 30th Jun, 2022 12:30 BST: The latest post in which Rob Gilbert has shut down comments is visible, so if you want to check out the comments that led to such a decision, have at it. Update: Thu 30th Jun, 2022 16:15 BST: Ron Gilbert's blog is now back up and running.
